Ridge lands Seven on the All Conference Team

Sr. Jake Beckman - DE/K - Did his damage with his leg as one of the best kickers in the area earning 2nd team All Group 5 as a K.  On defense as a DE, set the edge of a stingy Ridge Defense.  A mighty task with the speedy offenses Ridge faces in Group 5

Jr. Michael Olivo  - OB/DB - Mr Everything.  Led the Team in total yards, passing yards, rusing yards and interceptions.  His first year at the QB  position performed at the top of the confererence. Earned Conferece New Comer of the year (see below)    Also Punts and returns.

Sr. Colin Scherzer - LB/G - A captain and leader on the OL and on the defenssive sive of the ball.  2 year starter with versitility.  Played the last game of the year as a FB due to injuries.

Sr. Nolan Murphy - TE/DE - Another Captain whos play earned him starting time as a sophomore and he never looked back.  His size and game IQ made him a dominent defender while being a devistating blocker and sure handed reciever from the TE position.

Sr. Andrew Tadeo - OT/DL - One of the top Linemen in the state, Andrew was also selected Second Team All-State.  Led Ridge in sacks and Pancake blocks.  Dominated on the Line of Scrimage and led as a Captain this season

Jr. Lucas Hudkins - FB/LB  - Led Ridge running backs in average, attempts and rushing yards with nearly 800 yards in only seven games played.   A downhill runner with power and speed.  Plays LB on defense.

Jr. Mathew Lusardi - TE/LB - A two way starter with versitility and a nose for the football.  Led Ridge in tackles from the LB spot.  A devistating blocker as a Tight End.

Big Central Football Conferece Team of the Year: Ridge (6-2)

The Red Devils graduated a number of multi-year starters from an 8-2 team, yet moved along in 2020 as if the lineup was still drenched with veterans. Ridge did have some experienced hands back in crucial positions – for instance Andrew Taddeo to anchor the line and Nolan Murphy and Matt Lusardi on defense. Their stable leadership certainly made the transition from JV to varsity much smoother for than maybe expected for some players. The Red Devils won five of their first six games and lost only to Cranford and Phillipsburg.

Big Central Football Conferece Coach of the Year: Andy West, Ridge

Among the many changes on Ridge’s roster from 2019 to this season was the head coaching position. West stepped in to replace Bill Tracy, who had resigned after guiding the Red Devils to a 71-44 record in 11 seasons. It was business as usual for Ridge under West, and that was a very good thing. The Red Devils averaged 31.5 ppg. behind a well-rounded offense guided by junior QB Mike Olivo, junior fullback Lucas Hudkins and ends Nolan Murphy and Matthew Lusardi.

Big Central Football Conferece Newcomer: Mike Olivo, Ridge, QB, Jr.

Since we’re on the topic of Ridge’s offense, this would be a good time to introduce Olivo, who stepped in for 2020 graduate Brendan Bell and directed the offense with a combination of fine-touch skill and toughness. Olivo completed 55 of 112 passes for 976 yards and 15 touchdowns and carried 124 times for 783 yards and eight more scores. In the Red Devils’ stirring 37-21 victory over Union Oct. 16, Olivo rushed 26 times for 190 yards and four touchdowns and he connected with Lusardi on a 5-yard TD pass.

2ND All State Offense:  Andrew Taddeo - OT

1st Team All Group 5 Offense: Andrew Taddeo - OT

2nd Team All Group 5 Offense: Jake Beckman - K

3rd Team All Group 5 Defense: Matthew Lusardi - LB
